Zaid Hamid released from Saudi jail, returns to Pakistan

ISLAMABAD: Self-proclaimed security analyst and outspoken commentator Zaid Hamid has been released by Saudi authorities who was arrested over charges of an alleged provocative speech in Madina criticising the Saudi government.

Foreign Office spokesperson Qazi Khalilullah told Dawn News on Saturday that Zaid Hamid was released from the Saudi jail while he also quoted Pakistan Ambassador to Saudi Arabia Mr. Manzoorul Haq who also confirmed the development.

Khalilullah added, ‘Saudi authorities just confirmed his release but did not say anything about the charges against him,’

Moreover, Zaid Hamid’s official Facebook page linked his project ‘Brasstacks’ which confirmed Hamid’s return while the page claimed that no charge was proven during his detention in Saudi Arabia. The Twitter page linked to zaidhamid.pk site made a similar announcement.

It should be mentioned that outspoken commentator had been arrested on June 26, 2015 and sentenced to eight years in prison as well as 1,000 lashes by Saudi authorities.
