SYDNEY: Pakistan cricket team coach Waqar Younis on Wednesday rejected the notion that the wicket keeper batsman Sarfraz Ahmed was deliberately excluded from the team or there is a ‘conspiracy’ behind the exclusion.
Talking to a British media house, Younis said that the experiment to exclude Sarfraz and include Muhammad Rizwan in the playing eleven was to try new combinations before the next years T20 World Cup.
The coach who came under heavy criticism after the decision maintained that he does not take such decisions unilaterally but there is a touring selection committee which includes captain, coaches and managers who jointly decide such moves.
He explained that T20 format requires a little experimentation and we try different combinations.
“For this purpose, not only Sarfraz but other players are dumped and replaced, the player in question is taken into confidence”, said Younis.
Waqar Younis said that Sarfraz is an all important player and will be the next captain after Shahid Afridi.
