World Savings Day celebrated to promote saving culture in Pakistan

ISLAMABAD: World Savings Day 2016 with the theme “Grabbing the hold of your financial future” was celebrated here at the Central Directorate of National Savings (CDNS).

The event was attended by Parliamentary Secretary on Finance, Rana Muhammad Afzal Khan, Special Secretary Finance Dr. Shujat Ali, Director General National Savings, Zafar Masud employees and partners of the National Savings Organization.

While addressing on the occasion, Parliamentary Secretary on Finance, Rana Muhammad Afzal Khan said that Pakistan has a huge potential to raise savings from retail customers, adding that National Savings Organization is playing a pivotal role in this regard.

He said that the savings played an integral role in promoting economic development and ensuring social welfare in any economy.

Parliamentary Secretary on Finance said that National Savings Schemes offer saving instruments for all segments of the society, including Senior Citizens, Pensioners, Widows, Women as effective endowments, retirement plans, and insurance policies.

He urged all stake holders in financial sector to consolidate the efforts to provide Universal Financial Access to all segments of the society for attaining inclusive economic growth.

The social impact and contribution of National Savings Organization was indeed phenomenal, said the Parliamentary Secretary on Finance, Revenue, Economic Affairs, Statistics and Privatization.

On this occasion Special Secretary Finance, Dr. Shujat Ali appreciated the Central Directorate of National Savings (CDNS) for observing World Savings Day.

He also commended the efforts of National Savings for launching media campaigns to promote savings culture in Pakistan.

He emphasized the need for providing more autonomy to National Savings in order to minimize the Savings to GDP gap by utilizing technology-driven solutions to meet requirements of modern times.

He also highlighted untiring efforts of national savings employees throughout the country for making the organization efficient in terms of its far-reaching outreach and service delivery.

In his concluding remarks on World Savings Day 2016, Director General of National Savings Zafar Masud gave the vote of thanks to all the guest especially Parliamentary Secretary on Finance, RanaMuhammad Afzal Khan and Special Secretary Finance, Dr. Shujat Ali for their continued support to transform CDNS into a technology-driven modern organization.

He said the National Savings Organization is currently managing almost 33% of the banking deposits in the country with more than seven million customers.

National Savings Organization is working throughout the country with a huge network of more than 375 branches.
