PESHAWAR: Strong winds and rainfall with hail storm on Wednesday claimed two lives including a two year child, injuring 20 others in provincial metropolis while blowing away trees, billboards, electricity polls and loss of property.
According to spokesman of rescue 1122, some 14 incidents of roof collapse, tree, billboards electricity polls reported from across the city and Mardan killing two year Umer Khan at Khazana Sugar Mill and 30 years Jehangir at Lady Reading Hospital.
He said the incidents of collapses were reported from Guldara Chowk, Bashir Abad, Academy Town, Lahori Gate, Kohat Road, Charsadda Road, Faqir Qale, University Town, Hussain Chowk, Hyatabad and Patang Chowk.
He said several rods were inundated due to heavy rainfall in the city that continued for more than two hours.
He said that on the directives of Director General Rescue 1122 Dr. Asad Ali Khan high alert was issued and emergency was imposed in the city to cope with any emergency, adding that 18 ambulances and 120 officials of Rescue 1122 participated in the relief operations.
