CJP says Supreme Court won't be influenced by criticism

ISLAMABAD: During the hearing of the suo motu notice case on the issue of ruling of Deputy Speaker National Assembly in the Supreme Court, Chief Justice of Pakistan Umar Ata Bandial remarked that we cannot interfere in the situation of Punjab Assembly. We will decide tomorrow if the matter is heard here or refer to the Lahore High Court, he added.

At the end of today’s hearing, PML-N lawyer Azam Nazir Tarar said that the doors of Punjab Assembly are not being opened. The Chief Justice of Pakistan said that we cannot interfere in the situation of the Punjab Assembly.

The Chief Justice said that we want to decide on the issue of the National Assembly first. The members of the National Assembly behaved very politely in spite of all circumstances. We appreciate the good behavior of the members of the National Assembly. We will decide tomorrow that the Punjab Assembly case is heard here or send it to Lahore High Court.

Lawyer of Secretary Punjab Assembly said that there was a lot of disruption in the assembly so the meeting was adjourned till April 16. The deputy speaker has been missing since this morning. He is not being contacted. The notification of this evening’s meeting is fake.

The Chief Justice said that if the system was not cooperating then the constitutional officials could use their power.

The Chief Justice further said that no order regarding the Punjab Assembly could be issued in a hurry, adding that there were ideal conditions in Punjab to approach the people.
