The US State Department has said that Washington completely supports direct talks on the Kashmir issue between Pakistan and India.

In a statement on Thursday, the State Department called for exercising restraint and calm after Pakistan asked India envoy to leave the country.

It added: “We continue to support direct dialogue between India and Pakistan on Kashmir and other issues of concern.”

Earlier this week, India had declared Article 370 null and void withdrawing its special status of a state.

Indian Home Minister Amit Shah speaking in the Rajya Sabha announced to abrogate Article 370 from the constitution.

He also said that the Jammu and Kashmir will be re-organised and now it is union territory with legislature.

He continued that Ladakh will also be an union territory without legislature.

Former chief minister of occupied Kashmir Mehbooba Mufti strongly condemned the Indian government’s decision and termed it as a Indian democracy’s black day.

After the abrogation of the Article 370, now non-residents of Kashmir can also buy property and hold government jobs.
