NA-19 Haripur by-election: PML-N leads over PTI

HARIPUR: Ruling Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) leads over rival political party Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) in by-election held in NA-19 constituency of Haripur.

PML-N’s candidate Babar Nawaz Khan on top with 73,986 votes followed by Raja Amir Zaman of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) with 44,381 votes after emergence of unofficial results came from 251 out of 553 polling stations.

Polling event was commenced at 8:00am till 5:00pm here on Sunday amid tight security measures under supervision of military troops.

Total registered voters are 577,480 including 259,319 women in NA-19 constituency while 553 polling stations were established by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP).

Tough fight was expected between three amongst nine candidates in the run including Raja Amir Zaman of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), Babar Nawaz Khan of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and Tahir Qureshi of Pakistan People’s Party (PPP).

The seat fell vacant when the Supreme Court (SC) de-seated PML-N’s Omer Ayub Khan over petition filed by PTI’s Raja Amir Zaman.
