UN raises concerns over JI leader hanging in Bangladesh

United Nation (UN) Secretary General Ban Ki-moon has rejected the hanging of the Bangladesh Jamaat-i-Islami (JI) chief Motiur Rahman Nizami.

The spokesman of the Secretary-General in a press briefing said that UN chief stands against the death penalty under any circumstances, reflecting the global trend away from capital punishment.

He said “we have raised our concern to Bangladesh over the handling of this case.”

Jamaat-e-Islami Bangladesh Ameer Motiur Rahman Nizami was hanged over supporting united Pakistan in 1971.
