UNITED NATIONS: UN Secretary-General Wednesday deplored the killing of seven policemen guarding polio workers in Karachi, saying the eradication of polio was critical to the global health agenda.

“It is not only an attack on the health workers, but also against the people they are trying to serve in difficult conditions”, his spokesman Stephane Dujarric told the regular noon briefing in response to a question.

He said that the polio workers, who are doing an amazing job, needed to be protected.

According to reports, eight gunmen riding four motorcycles carried out the killings in two separate attacks in Karachi’s Orangi Town.
