UAE embassy convoy attacked in Somalia, 6 killed in Mogadishu

MOGADISHU: At least six persons were killed in a suicide explosion on a convoy of United Arab Emirates (UAE) embassy moving in the Somali capital Mogadishu, foreign news agency reported on Wednesday.

A suicide bomber crashed his car into the pick-up truck and there were casualties that occurred heavy explosion while a military convoy from the African Union force in Somalia (AMISOM) was also passing nearby at the time of the attack close to the UAE embassy, witnesses said.

Police confirmed death of six persons including four civilians while six others sustained injuries, however, all UAE diplomats escaped unhurt in the suicide attack.

Somalian militant outfit Shebab claimed responsibility of the attack first-ever to target the UAE in Somalia. It should be mentioned that UAE is running various projects of security, infrastructure, development and humanitarian projects in Somalia.
