Two Railways staffers injured in accident

HYDERABAD: A Cargo train engine dashed into another goods train, injuring two Railways employees on the main line in Latifabad here Monday morning.

According to Superintendent, Hyderabad Railways, Shamsuddin Solangi, the driver and fireman received serious injuries in accident. The driver of Punjab bound goods train failed to see the red light of the auto-signal, consequently Engine No-4714/KCL-10 rammed into another goods train, waiting for opening of the signal at the same track between Pathan Goth and Khaskheli Muhalla, Latifabad.

The engine smashed into the guard’s cabin of the first goods train and the wreckage clasped the legs of driver Jamil Akhtar and the fireman Mushtaq Ali.

Soon after the incident, the rescue workers and the Railways officials rushed to the spot and started rescuing the driver and fireman by cutting the wreckage. After two hours struggle, the rescue team succeeded to bring the driver Jamil Akhtar out from the wreckage. The injured driver was rushed to Civil Hospital for first aid while the rescue team is still struggling to rescue the fireman.

As a result of accident, the railway traffic at the up track has been halted however, the traffic at the down track continued, the Superintendent Hyderabad Railways informed.
