Two policemen detained after ‘suspicious’ encounter

KARACHI: Two Police personnel were taken into custody after a ‘suspicious’ encounter which led to the killing of a youth in Karachi’s Gulshan-e-Iqbal locality on Friday.

The deceased, Syed Atique, was a student of Rangers’ college, according to his cousin. He said that police opened fire after his cousin tried to speed away despite the policemen identified as Zafar and Bandal  signaled him to stop.

After Inspector General Sindh Police AD Khawaja took notice of the incident, both policemen were taken into custody.

According to SP Gulshan, both have been shifted to Gulshan police station, saying that interrogation in this regard was underway.

Meanwhile a case has been registered against the police personnel on behalf of the youth’s family in Gulshan police station.

On Friday, policemen after killing the motorcyclist had termed the incident as an ‘encounter’. However, later on it was revealed that deceased, Atique, was a student of Rangers’ college.
