BAGHDAD: At least two car bombs blasted in central Baghdad outside two luxury hotels killed as many as 10 persons and 30 others injured.
The Car bombs exploded in the parking lots of two heavily fortified five-star hotels in central Baghdad late on Thursday, killing at least 10 people. A further 30 people were wounded in the blasts, which were around seven minutes apart.
The first bomb targeted the Babylon hotel, a swanky and recently refurbished hotel overlooking the Tigris river.where government officials often hold meetings and news conferences, and the second hit the Meridian.
The explosions occurred just before midnight (2100 GMT) and were heard across the city centre. According to police and an interior ministry source.
The second car bomb exploded a few minutes later in an area close to the Sheraton hotel and a popular club which is usually crowded at that time on a Thursday.
