ANKARA: Turkish parliament on Saturday approved constitutional amendments after deputies completed voting ion 18 articles.
339 lawmakers voted to support the constitutional amendments that lead to a pubic referendum, which is likely to be held in early April.
Turkish Prime Minister Binali Yildrim felicitated the deputies for voting in favour of the constitutional changes and said that now people will have the final say in the country.
He said that “we have done our job and now will take the issue to real owners of the country”. The prime minister said that public vote will be the most accurate one.
Meanwhile, Devlet Bahveli, the Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) leader told deputies that the Turkish nation will evaluate itself.
However, Kemal Kilicdaroglu, the main opposition and Republican People’s Party leader appealed to the nation to spoil the constitutional amendments approved by the parliament. He termed the amendments as mistake.
