DAMASCUS: At least 60 persons lost their lives and more than 100 left injured in triple bomb blast near shrine of Syeda Zeinab Razi Allahu Anha (R.A.) in southern part of Syrian capital Damascus here on Sunday, State media reported.
Syrian state news agency SANA while quoting an interior ministry source reported that a group of militants had detonated a car bomb near a public transport garage in the neighborhood of Koua Sudan area. The Islamic State (IS) group on Sunday claimed responsibility for bombings.
Television footage showed burning buildings and wrecked cars on the incident’s location as two suicide bombers detonated themselves when people were being rescued.
It should be mentioned that the shrine, which contains the grave of one of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH)’s grand-daughters Syeda Zeinab R.A. , had been targeted by bus bomb explosion in February 2015 which cost many lives.
The deadly bomb explosions occurred when delegates from the Syrian government and opposition groups gathered in Geneva for tentative UN-sponsored peace talks.
Moreover, the Islamic State group on Sunday claimed responsibility for bombings near a revered shrine outside the Syrian capital Damascus that killed at least 45 people.
In a statement circulated on social media, the militant group said two of its members had detonated suicide bombs near the Sayyida Zeinab shrine.
Syrian state media earlier reported 45 people had been killed and 110 injured in the attacks, which it said involved a car bomb and two suicide bombers.
