MULTAN: Special Assistant to Prime Minister on Revenue Haroon Akhtar Khan on Saturday urged non-tax filers to avail an opportunity under the tax amnesty scheme which would surely benefit them.
Addressing a seminar arranged jointly by traders and the FBR here, he said nearly one million people out of 180 million in the country were paying taxes which was very low. He added that 4.5 percent people in India used to pay taxes and if Pakistanis paid at the same percentage, then there would be nine million tax payers in our country.
The government would not have been taken foreign loans if nine million people would pay taxes, he said and added that the country would be prosperous in almost every field.
He said tax GDP was nearly 11 percent in Pakistan and it was 18 percent in India so there was need to enhance it.
He said facilities, including no sales tax registration, no withholding tax agent, no wealth statement, no tax audit, were being provided to new filers for a certain period of time.
The government would also provide facilities to traders who were already paying taxes. A new tax form in Urdu language and of one page had been introduced to ease traders, he said and added new tax schemes were introduced with traders representatives.
Earlier, Chairman All Pakistan Anjuman-e-Tajran Khawaja Shafique, General Secretary Naeem Mir and officers of FBR highlighted benefits of tax schemes.
