Tokyo stocks rally by break, extending global gains

TOKYO: Tokyo stocks soared Wednesday morning, extending a rally on global markets while Sony advanced more than six percent after investors shrugged off a weak profit forecast.

The benchmark Nikkei 225 index at the Tokyo Stock Exchange rallied 1.80 percent, or 296.91 points, to 16,795.67 by the break, while the broader Topix index of all first-section shares climbed 1.48 percent, or 19.57 points, to 1,346.07.
