TOKYO: Tokyo stocks opened lower on Wednesday as the yen soared against the dollar following US President Donald Trump’s accusation that Japan has been devaluating its currency for trade benefits.
The benchmark Nikkei 225 fell 0.54 percent, or 103.19 points, to 18,938.15 in the first few minutes while the Topix index of all first-section issues was down 0.83 percent, or 12.64 points, to 1,509.03.
