TOKYO: Tokyo shares opened lower on Thursday, following a weak lead from Wall Street after the US Federal Reserve left the door open for more interest rate hikes this year despite the economic uncertainty that has roiled markets.

The benchmark Nikkei 225 index dropped 0.61 percent, or 104.08 points, to 17,059.84 in opening deals, while the broader Topix index of all first-section shares fell 0.55 percent, or 7.77 points, to 1,392.93.
