Five more deaths confirmed in Gujranwala train accident

GUJRANWALA: Five more dead bodies were recovered from the lake Chanawan on Friday taking the death toll from Thursday’s train accident to 19.

ISPR spokesman Major General Asim Bajwa confirmed the death toll in the accident which is still being suspected as an act of ‘terrorism’.

On the other hand, rescue sources confirmed four more deaths and estimated the death toll to be about 18.

Dead bodies of Subedar Major Islam and two other milirary men were recovered from the canal while two people are still missing.

Four bogies of the special train to Kharian fell into the canal near Jamke Chattha in Gujranwala. A statement issued by the military said four carriages derailed as the train crossed Chanawan Bridge.
