DAMMAM: Three Iranians have been executed in Saudi Arabia for smuggling large amount of hashish to the kingdom through sea.

The official Saudi Press Agency (SPA) said the death sentences of the Iranians, who had been arrested while smuggling the drug, were carried out in the city of Dammam, the capital of the country’s Eastern Province, on Sunday.

The sentences, issued following trials at courts, had been endorsed by the kingdom’s Supreme Court as well as King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud.

According to AFP tallies, their cases brought to 145 the number of locals and foreigners executed in the conservative kingdom so far this year, compared with 87 in 2014.

Rights experts have expressed concern about the fairness of trials in the Saudi Arabia.

The execution of the Iranians comes less than two weeks after Saudi prince Abdel Mohsen Bin Walid Bin Abdulaziz Al Saud was arrested with two tonnes of amphetamines, packed in 40 suitcases, which were due to be loaded onto a private jet.

The kingdom of Saudi Arab, which uses sharia/ Islamic law, backs its trials to be fair.
