KARACHI: At least three Pakistan International Airline (PIA) workers sustain injuries on Tuesday as security forces restored to firing to disperse the protesting workers in Karachi.
Security forces fired at PIA workers as they marched towards the Jinnah Terminal airport from airline’s head office in an attempt to block the Jinnah International Airport.
The Joint Action Committee (JAC) of PIA’s labour leaders have decided to go ahead with their planned strike after the government refused to commit to keeping PIA as a completely government-run organisation.
Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif approved the extension of the Essential Services (Maintenance) Act (ESMA) 1952 to PIA on the recommendation of the Aviation Division for ‘ensuring smooth sailing of the airline’s affairs’, PM Office statement had stated.
