LAHORE: Three-day polio campaign was launched in Lahore Tuesday which aims at vaccinating more than 15.5 lac children.

Spokesperson Health Department has said that the campaign will continue for three days across the district and would cover at least 165 union councils (UC). As many as 3,698 teams have been formed for the drive.

The teams will work on at least 311 sites during the campaign. At least 726 officers will monitor the teams. The drive will conclude on November 19.

On the other hand, atleast 2,475,616 Balochistan children have been vaccinated against the crippling virus until November 11. The drive was conducted in collaboration of Health Department and Donor departments.

The local government stated that 6,603 teams were participating in the campaign which will immunize drops to children at various stops like railway stations, bus stands and airports.

However, in Quetta 900 teams were formed to inoculate polio drops to 3,75,000 children.

At least 1,800 security officers including Balochistan Constabulary (BC) and Levies personnel were deputed on the security of the workers.

Health teams in Pakistan have been attacked repeatedly since the Taliban denounced vaccines as a Western plot to sterilize Muslims and imposed bans on inoculation in June 2012.
