HEBRON, West Bank: Thousands of Palestinians on Saturday gathered in Hebron to bury 14 men whose bodies had been held by Israel after killing them and later handed over to the relatives, foreign media reported.
Israeli authorities handed over the bodies of 23 Palestinians on Friday, of which 14 were from the southern West Bank city.
Thousands were gathered inside the Al-Hussein mosque which was overflowing with people, where the dead bodies were on display before prayers that were wrapped in Palestinian flags while funeral prayers were held in Hebron’s stadium next to the mosque.
It should be mentioned here that at least 138 Palestinians were brutally killed by Israeli forces alleging to face attacks on Israel citizens in recent series of violence commenced in October 2015.
Israeli military spokeswoman said that a total of 76 bodies would be returned while the authorities were still holding two dead bodies. Police could also be holding more bodies, she said.
Palestinian sources said the Israelis were still holding a total of 17 bodies, including at least 15 of Palestinians from East Jerusalem.
