KABUL: The Afghan Taliban have claimed control of 85 percent of the country.

A Taliban spokesman says control of the entire country will soon be taken over.

On the other hand, the situation in Afghanistan remained relatively peaceful on the second day of Eid, with the guns of the Taliban and Afghan security forces remaining almost silent in several major cities, including Ghazni and Kandahar.

Last week, the Taliban had taken control of the main corridor between Pakistan and Afghanistan.

A statement issued by Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid had said that the attack on the Afghan district of Spin Boldak, which borders Pakistan, was carried out and that the main corridor between Pakistan and Afghanistan had been taken over.

The spokesperson said that Taliban have regained control of Bab Dosti from Afghanistan after 20 years. On Bab Dosti, Taliban have taken down the national flag of Afghanistan and the white flag of Islamic Emirate of Taliban has been waved.

The Taliban spokesman had appealed that citizens and businessmen should not come to Bab Dosti for the time being.
