Swine flu death toll rises to 11 in Punjab

LAHORE: Punjab Health department Director General Dr. Amjad Shehzad on Friday has said that at least 11 people had been died of Swine flu in different parts of the province.

He said in a statement that four people died of Swine flu in Rawalpindi, three in Multan, two in Lahore, one in Muzaffargarh and one died in Chakwal. The statement said that more than 36 patient of Swine flu are still admit in different hospital in the province.

while the National Institute of Health on Friday issued advisory for all the provinces regarding threats posed by Swine Flu as number of people affected by the deadly virus rose to 150.

The NIH stressed the need for early diagnosis of the flu, saying patients suffering from diabetes and heart diseases could be more prone to the virus.

It also asked the relevant departments in all the federating units to send blood sample within four days of examination of the patients.

Health experts say the virus could spread in the country if adequate measures were not taken.

According to figures issued by the Punjab government, 11 people have died of the flu while 36 others tested positive.

According to experts, intensity of the virus may decrease due to recent rain spell in the province. Additional Chief Secretary Punjab Shumail Ahmed Khawaja presided over a meeting to review H1, N1 seasonal influenza situation in the province.

Advisor on Health Kh. Salman Rafique, Secretary Specialized Healthcare & Medical Education Najam Ahmed Shah, Secretary Primary & Secondary Healthcare Ali Jan Khan, Director General Health Dr. Amjad Shehzad, Director CDC Dr. Habib-ur-Rehman and Vice Chancellor King Edward Medical University Prof. Faisal Masood attended the meeting.
