ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court of Pakistan has ended lifetime disqualification under Article 62(1)(f) of the Constitution in a 6-1 majority verdict.

A 7-member bench headed by Chief Justice Qazi Faiz Isa held the hearing. The verdict in the life-long disqualification case was reserved on January 5.

During the hearing, the Chief Justice remarked that entire Pakistan happy with 5-year disqualification period law

How can a gentleman’s wisdom prevail over the parliament of 326, the decision of the parliament should not be looked down upon, he added.

If the parliament did not write the period, why is the disqualification for life? Disqualification for life is against Islam, the Chief Justice observes.

Justice Yahya Afridi disagreed with the decision and said that disqualification under 621F is not even for life, disqualification is until there is a judicial decision, Samiullah Baloch decision was correct.
