In occupied Kashmir, the All Parties Hurriyat Conference General Secretary, Ghulam Nabi Sumjhi, has expressed serious concern over the arrest spree unleashed by the Indian forces and cautioned the authorities to end the reign of terror in the Valley.

Ghulam Nabi Sumjhi in a statement issued in Srinagar said that the repressive and suppressive measures would not be able to force Kashmiris to submission and despite the arbitrary measures, detentions, humiliations and denial of political space they would pursue their cherished mission.

The APHC General Secretary while referring to fresh arrest spree and night raids in south Kashmir particularly in Islamabad district said that several youth including Shabbir Ahmed Rathar, Mushtaq Ahmed Sheikh and Aijaz Ahmed Malik had been arrested and booked under draconian Public Safety Act (PSA).

He said, police stations have been turned into torture cells where the youth are being tortured on the directives of the occupation authorities. He said that the authorities were hell bent to subject the people to terror and pushing the youth to the wall.

Ghulam Nabi Sumjhi cautioned the authorities that through the use of brute force, things will only worsen. The people of occupied Kashmir are facing the worst human rights abuses and the international community must help them in their struggle aimed at securing their right to self-determination.

Meanwhile, the Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front leader, Noor Muhammad Kalwal, in a statement in Srinagar condemned the atrocities being perpetrated on the political detainees languishing in different jails. He said, “Subjecting detainees to physical and mental torture is against the norms of humanity and democracy.”

He said that the illegally detained JKLF leader, Nazir Ahmed Sheikh, lodged at Kot Bhalwal Jail in Jammu was recently brought to a Srinagar court for hearing of a false case registered against him. He was immediately shifted back to Kot Bhalwal Jail, he said.

Noor Muhammad Kalwal also paid rich tributes to Ghulam Mohiuddin Deejo on his death anniversary and described him as a dedicated activist of JKLF who sacrificed his life for the Kashmir cause.
