Karachi: The State Bank of Pakistan will not issue new currency notes on the eve of the Eidul Fitr.
This was stated by a spokesperson for the central bank in a notification issued here on Monday.
He said that during a meeting of the SBP’s Covid-19 committee it was decided that the bank would not release new currency notes to any anyone including its existing or retired employees on the coming Eid.
The SBP has also directed the commercial banks that new notes would not be supplied to them on the Eid.
The notification said that the step had been taken in the wake of coronavirus pandemic in the country.
Meanwhile, earlier in the day, Prime Minister Imran Khan said that to lessen the economic affects of restrictions on the masses the lockdown would have to be removed gradually in the country.
He stated this in a televised address to the nation.
The prime minister said that lockdown has to be removed so that citizens could earn livelihood.
However, he said that we have to follow safety measures otherwise our efforts would go waste.
