BAMAKO: Six United Nations’ peacekeeping soldiers have been killed in Mali. The militants targeted the UN forces convoy and killed the six soldiers. Five other soldiers were injured in the attack. They also torched two vehicles of the convoy.
The UN forces convoy was on patrolling on the way from Timbuktu to Goundam when they were attacked. UN officials said in a statement that the evacuation of the wounded was in progress.
The officials said that two of its vehicles had been destroyed and that reinforcements had been sent to the area, backed from the air by helicopters.
Sources said that soldiers from Burkina Faso were the victims of the attack.
Mauritanian news agency Al-Akhbar said that it had received a statement from Al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb (AQIM) admitting the attack.
