Salamabad: Six new judges of the Supreme Court who have been promoted from lower courts have taken oath of office.
Chief Justice of Pakistan Yahya Afridi administered the oath of office to the new judges.
Justice Amir Farooq, Justice Hashim Kakar, Justice Ishtiaq Ibrahim, Justice Shakeel Ahmed, Justice Shafi Siddiqui and Justice Salahuddin Panhor took oath.
Justice Miangul Hassan Aurangzeb also took oath as acting judge of the Supreme Court, Chief Justice of Pakistan Yahya Afridi administered the oath to Justice Miangul Hassan Aurangzeb.
Islamabad High Court Judge Mohsin Akhtar Kayani, Attorney General, lawyers, law officers and judicial staff were also present at the swearing-in ceremony.
It may be recalled that a few days ago, a meeting of the Judicial Commission chaired by Chief Justice of Pakistan Yahya Afridi approved the appointment of six judges.
Justice Mansoor Ali Shah and Justice Muneeb Akhtar boycotted the meeting for not stopping the proceedings of the judicial commission meeting, while PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar and Barrister Ali Zafar also boycotted the meeting.
The judicial commission approved the names of Balochistan High Court Chief Justice Hashim Khan Kakar, Peshawar High Court Chief Justice Ishtiaq Ibrahim, Sindh High Court Chief Justice Shafi Siddiqui and Islamabad High Court Chief Justice Amir Farooq.
