Six-member Rescue 1122 team sent to UK for training

LAHORE: A six-member delegation comprising officials of Rescue 1122 Lahore operational team has been sent to United Kingdom for emergency and disaster management training, to deal with day-to-day emergencies related to Orange Metro Line train in an effective way.

The training has been arranged by Hanzala Malik, Member Scottish Parliament, in pursuit of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed between the Lahore City and Glasgow as twin cities and another MoU signed with Strathclyde Fire Service.

Director General Brig (R) Dr Arshad Zia told the daily review meeting that the members had been selected on the basis of their performance and contribution.

The selected members are: Shahid Waheed Qammer, Emergency Officer; Muhammad Azam, Rescue & Safety Officer; Naeem-Ur-Rehman, Emergency Medical Technician; Amjad Khan, Fire Rescuer; and Muhammad Jhangir, DERT Rescuer; and the delegation leader Dr Ahmad Raza (Tamgha-i-Imtiaz), District Emergency Officer Lahore.

The delegation would proceed to Scottish Fire Service, Glasgow, Scotland, United Kingdom, for 10 days academic and practical simulation-based training of metro train accidents and disasters.

Dr Arshad Zia told the meeting that rescue delegation would get training on underground structure and tunnels, incident command considerations, hazard risk vulnerability assessment, specialised equipment, major incident planning, underground station visits, road traffic crashes management, contingency planning, strategic planning control rooms and paramedical cycle programme followed by field visit to Scottish Public Transport System and Scottish Ambulance Service.

The DG said the department was thankful to Chief Minister Punjab for providing all-out support for enhancing operational capacity of Rescue 1122.
