ISLAMABAD: Ameer Jamaat-e-Islami Siraj-ul-Haq on Friday demanded to immediately end violence against Rohingya community in Myanmar and urged international community to help the oppressed at this critical stage.
Addressing a rally in Islamabad on Friday, he urged the international organisations to take a stance on the matter. He said that a session of Organisation of Islamic Cooperation should be immediately summoned and strategy should be devised through mutual consensus to assist the Muslims of Burma.
God has directed us to help the oppressed, he said adding that purpose of today’s gathering is to awaken people’s collective conscience on this sensitive issue.
Religious organisations, political parties, students and members of the civil society also held a demonstration in the Aabpara area and protested the persecution of Rohingya Muslims in Myanmar.
Around 5000 personnel of Islamabad Police were deployed for the security of protestors while officials of Rangers and Frontier Constabulary were also deployed.
The main procession was taken out by the Jamaat-e-Islami, whose chief Siraj-ul-Haq led the rally.
Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP) also issued a route plan for convenience of road users and diverted traffic on alternate routes. A total of 488 traffic policemen were deployed for guidance of road users on alternate routes while ITP’s FM Radio 92.4 also kept them informed about road situation.
