ISLAMABAD: Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Pakistan Ameer, Senator Sirajul Haq on Tuesday expressed satisfaction over the Supreme Court’s ruling on Panama Leaks.
While expressing satisfaction over the Supreme Court’s ruling on Panama Leaks, Jamaat-e-Islami chief Sirajul Haq said on Tuesday that anti-corruption campaign was launched by his party and he would carry it forward to its logical end.
Haq was speaking to the media outside the Supreme Court after hearing on JI’s petition filed against corruption.
Earlier the apex court had asked both the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf and Pakistan Muslim League-N to submit their Terms of Reference (ToRs) on the establishment of a commission to probe the Panama Leaks.
The JI chief said it is entire nation’s demand for accountability of corrupt rulers and not only that of JI. We want rule of law and settlement of legal matters within courts instead of streets in the country.
He opined that the government due to its wrong measures had trapped itself in a tunnel.
Talking about the prime minister’s demand of holding accountability of people since 1947, the JI chief questioned whether Nawaz also wanted Quaid-e-Azam’s accountability?
Senator Haq said that a campaign that launched in 1996 under the leadership of late Qazi Hussain Ahmed against corruption was still continue today. He voiced hope that the day was not far away when accountability of corrupt rulers would be done and plundered money would be brought back into the country.
He added that the nation in the first phase wants accountability of looters from the government and later from Zardari and Musharraf.
The JI chief recalled that the government had failed to bring any bill against corruption in the parliament for seven months and now it is seeking more time for legislation against the menace.
Haq urged the Supreme Court to not only probe into corruption but also punish those found involved in the menace by seizing their assets and cancelling their passports and NICs so that they may not be able flee the country.
He said that only the SC can steer the country and nation out of the crisis. He said political activities cannot be suspended due to formation of a commission by the SC as holding peaceful protests and rallies was a right of citizens under democracy.
