KARACHI: The public and private schools in Karachi and across the Sindh province reopened after 2 months and 10 days of summer vacation today.

The Sindh government had extended summer vacations for all the schools and colleges by a week owing to the threat of heavy floods and rainfall in the province.

All the educational institutions were to have resumed classes on August 3, however, now commenced their activities today. The Sindh Private Schools Owners Association has voiced reservations about the government’s decision to extend summer vacations.

A spokesperson of the association said that the decision had presumably been made on account of monsoon rains, did not apply to Karachi where the management was already compelled to close schools at regular intervals due to one or the other pressing situation. She said additional holidays make completion of courses difficult for the teachers.

Of course, she said, students were the ultimate sufferers because they were the ones denied of the opportunity to have adequate space and time to learn and understand the curriculum.
