KARACHI: The Sindh Assembly has approved Local Government (Amended) Bill 2016 with vast majority despite protest lodged by opposition members who thrown copies of the bill on the floor.
The session was held under chair of Speaker Sindh Assembly Agha Siraj Durrani here on Wednesday where a member of Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) presented Sindh’s Local Government (Amended) Bill 2016 which was later approved with larger majority in the assembly.
The bill bounded local bodies’ institutions to run under monitoring of a directorate led by the Sindh government. Opposition members lodged strong protest against the bill.
Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) members expressed severe concerns over the approval of LG bill 2016 and raised slogan of “Shame Shame” during the session. MQM members said the provincial government did not gain confidence of opposition before approving the bill.
Following the protest, Speaker Sindh Assembly adjourned the session till April 29.
