Sial reviews police steps for curbing Karachi street crimes

KARACHI: Sindh Home Minister Sohail Anwar Khan Sial presided over a high level meeting to review the overall Law and Order situation with special reference to police measures for curbing Street Crimes in the city.

The meeting was attended by IGP Sindh A. D. Khowaja, Addl. IG Karachi Mushtaq Mahar, DIG Admn., Zonal DIsG, District SSsP, SSsP Investigations & Chief CPLC, Chairman law & order committee KATI and others, said a statement here Saturday.

Home Minister while reviewing the current year’s Crimes statistics, compiled by Karachi Police and comparing it with that of CPLC, stressed upon the officers to discharge duties with utmost responsibility and professional acumen.

He said that all out efforts should be made to get rid of Street Crimes.

The minister on the occasion issued the following directives to the police:

– To streamline and strengthen coordination with CPLC

– To start community policing projects in markets, business areas

– To ensure random snap checking, police picketing

– To raise/strengthen Advance Intelligence Collection System and ensure targeted action against gangs or individual involved in Street Crimes.

– To sensitize and educate citizens to assist/inform timely to police through an awareness drive.

The IGP during his address to officers asked Addl. IG Karachi to raise a “motorcycle squad” for checking street crimes in the city.

“Such motorcycle squads be raised at districts level and the selected personnel should be detailed for the responsibility”, he added.

He also directed CRO (Criminal Record Office) to devise an efficient system in consultation and coordination of NADRA for keeping biometric record of the arrested accused.

He reiterated that the project regarding Establishment of Police Facilitation Centers for public convenience/assistance would be completed by July, 2016.
