Shooting and a bomb blast took place in the Iranian parliament killing one and injuring several, officials said as cited by local media. Deadly gunfire and a bombing also reportedly occurred at the mausoleum of Ayatollah Khomeini in Tehran.

Attacker opened fire at the guards inside the parliament, then escaped the building and is now on the run, FARS news agency reported.

According to Tasnim, at least four people have been injured, including two “ordinary clients,” a “service staffer” and a guard from Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).

The guard succumbed to his injuries, Tasnim and Fars news agencies later reported, citing lawmakers and members of parliament.

A male assailant was arrested while on the run at the parliament’s hallway, Akbar Ranjbarzadeh, a senior member of the parliament’s Presiding Board told Farsnews.

In the meantime, Elyas Hazrati, a senior MP, told the agency that there were at least three attackers who carried two Kalashnikov rifles and a handgun.

“I was inside the parliament when shooting happened. Everyone was shocked and scared. I saw two men shooting randomly,” one journalist at the scene said.

However, Fars cited some members of parliament who claimed that shooting continues in the building.

“Clashes still continue at the parliament building,” one MP said. That has not been confirmed by other media outlets.

A Tasnim reporter at the parliament says the lawmakers have been locked in the building’s hall.

Anti-Terrorism Special Forces (NOPO) have been deployed at the parliament building, according to FARS.

Later on Wednesday, reports emerged saying that gunmen had opened fire at mausoleum of Iran’s Ayatollah Khomeini in the Iranian capital.

Fars reported that two assailants opened fire at civilians. Another assailant blew himself up in an apparent suicide attack, the local agencies said. Several people were injured in that incident.

Tehran Governor Hossein Hashemi confirmed the incident at Ayatollah Khomeini mausoleum, saying that one attacker was killed by security forces and other assailants were arrested, IRIB broadcaster reported.

Hashemi added that a worker was killed and several people injured in the mausoleum attack.

The Tehran Province Security Council is to hold an emergency meeting following both incidents, Interior Minister Abdolreza Rahmani Fazli told reporters.

Following both shootings, a suicide blast was reported on the fifth floor of the Iranian parliament, Tasnim and IRIB said. Fars added that the suicide bomber blew himself up on the fourth floor.
