SHC orders criminal charges against TRG management to proceed

KARACHI: The Sindh High Court on Tuesday served contempt of court notices to the Election Commission of Pakistan and the Sindh government for not holding the local bodies elections in the province.

The SHC directed the ECP to write a fresh letter to the Sindh government asking to hold LG elections.

A petitioner, Mahmood Akhtar, stated in his plea that the local government elections were being delayed on an excuse of demarcation of constituencies. He alleged that the Sindh government wants to embezzle the annual budget of Rs78 billion.

Justice Muhammad Ali Mazhar asked the counsel for the ECP that when would you hold the local bodies elections?

Later, the court adjourned the hearing till Dec 15.
