Sindh High Court (SHC) has overturned death sentence awarded to main suspects Shahrukh Jatoi and Siraj Talpur by Supreme Court of Pakistan in Shahzeb murder case, converting it into life imprisonment.

The verdict was announced by a division bench of the provincial high court comprising Justice Muhammad Ali Mazhar; the court commuted the death sentence to life imprisonment for co-accused Siraj Talpur in the murder of 20-year-old Shahzeb Khan.

The court upheld the life imprisonment sentence for Sajjad Talpur and Ghulam Murtaza Lashari as it dismissed the appeals filed by the co-accused.

On 25 December 2012, Shahzeb Khan, a university student was killed for standing up to a group of feudal lords’ sons who were eve-teasing her sister.

His death sparked outrage against the abuse of power by the wealthy in Pakistan.

On 7 June 2013, Shahrukh Jatoi, son of feudal Sikandar Jatoi and Siraj Talpur, from the Talpur clan, were sentenced to death for this crime, whereas Sajjad Talpur and Ghulam Murtaza Lashari were sentenced to life imprisonment for aiding the two killers.
