Senate chairman forms committee for improvement in PIA

ISLAMABAD: Chairman Senate Mian Raza Rabbani has formed an investigation committee comprising representatives of all the political parties to devise recommendations for improvement of Pakistan International Airline.

Senator Muttahida Qaumi Movement Tahir Mashhadi said the biggest problem of PIA was buying new aircrafts and 69 organisations including PIA stood at the brink of destruction. He said former employees of PIA built Emirates and Singapore airlines.

Minister for State Sheikh Aftab said mismanagement and nepotism had been in full swing in the past. Loss of PIA in 2013 was Rs42 billion. He said the present government had given PIA Rs16b grant for reforms. The loss of PIA remains Rs20b now and it would become lucrative organisation in two years.

Raza Rabbani in a separate statement has reiterated need to further strengthen existing bilateral relations between Pakistan and US through enhancing parliamentary ties and cooperation in various areas of mutual interest.

He said this while talking to Jonathan Pratt, Charged d’ Affaires of the Embassy of USA in Pakistan who visited Parliament House to call on Chairman Senate along with Mr. Ian J. McCary, Political Counselor, Us Embassy.

Later in the day Mr George Perkovich Vice President for Studies from Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, USA accompanied by Senator Lt.Gen. (R) Abdul Qayyum also called on Mian Raza Rabbani , Chairman, Senate of Pakistan  in the Parliament House.
