Scuffle in NA, session adjourned till tomorrow

ISLAMABAD: Speaker National Assembly Ayaz Sadiq has adjourned session till tomorrow after consulting with leader of opposition Khursheed Shah.

Earlier, the session was adjourned for 15 minutes as Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) lawmakers began making noise, torn agenda copies and started chanting slogans against Government.

Members of the opposition party began making noise as soon as Minister for Railways Saad Rafique stood at his place to address the session.

The commotion reached its peaks as PTI members of the assembly gathered before the Speaker’s dais and tore copies of the agenda apart. They vehemently chanted slogans against the government effectively obstructing the House proceedings.

Leader of the Opposition Khursheed Shah criticising Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif said whenever he [Nawaz] comes in parliament, he reads a written speech.

Pakistan Peoples’ Party (PPP) leader expressed these views while addressing the National Assembly’s 38th session on Wednesday.

This parliament is honorable for 20 crore people of this country, he said and added that this parliament came into being after great difficulties and sacrifices.

“We safeguarded this House and when the prime minister comes to the same House, he reads out a written statement,” the opposition leader said, adding that we saw prisons, hardships for safeguarding the Parliament.

Shah asked is politics the name of any lie?

Government is rapidly losing its popularity, he added. When National Assembly was attacked, it was opposition that saved democracy.

Commenting on Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, he said the statement of PM in this parliament was political.

“I was personally criticised but I did not leave patience,” he added.

Earlier, The National Assembly’s 38th session started at 1640 hours with the recitation of verses from the Holy Quran and Naat.

Speaker National Assembly Sardar Ayaz Sadiq was in the chair and the house would take up agenda items including Questions, Calling Attention Notices, Legislative Business, Motion, Motion of Thanks, Reports of the Committee and Points of Order.
