ISLAMABAD: A notification that confirmed the extension of General Qamar Javed Bajwa as Chief of Army Staff has been suspended by the top court here on Tuesday.
Chief Justice Asif Saeed Khosa heard the withdrawal application of a petition that challenged the extension in Gen Bajwa’s tenure.
Earlier, PM Imran Khan had approved on Aug 19 the extension of Gen Bajwa as COAS.
The court remarked that the prime minister was not the authority to extend tenure of the COAS.
It observed that only the president has the authority to extend tenure of the army chief.
The court issued notices to the Army Chief, Defence Ministry and the Attorney General.
Later, the hearing was adjourned till Nov 27.
