KARACHI: The Supreme Court of Pakistan on Monday directed to continue anti-encroachment operation along the Orangi and Gujjar storm water drains.
A bench headed by Chief Justice Gulzar Ahmad heard the case concerning the encroachments along the Gujjar and Orangi storm water drains. The counsel for the affectees, Karachi commissioner and others appeared before the court.
During the hearing, the Chief Justice questioned that if the land that was given on lease is legal? To which, the counsel for the affectees, Faisal Siddiqui, replied in yes and added that all the lease was legal. The Chief Justice remarked that all the lease was fake.
The court observed that first compensation be paid to the affectees and then encroachments be removed. Compensation should be paid but the operation should not be stopped.
The counsel said that the apex court had ordered rehabilitation of the affectees but this had not been implemented so far.
