SC lifts ban from hunting endanger bird Houbara Bustard

ISLAMABAD: Supreme Court of Pakistan has lifted ban from hunting of protected bird – Houbara Bustard – declaring ban null and void.

Chief Justice Anwer Zaheer Jamali led five member larger bench saved the verdict on January 8 which is announced today (Friday).

The government requested the Supreme Court to lift the perpetual ban on the hunting of Houbara bustard in the country.

It is pertinent to mention here that, a three-judge bench headed by Chief Justice Jawwad S Khawaja on August 19, 2015 had struck down the notification issued by the Foreign Office for issuance of licence for hunting or poaching of houbara bustard.

It had also declared the Sindh Wildlife Protection Ordinance ultra vires. The judgment said neither the federation nor a province can grant license/permit to hunt the protected birds.
