RIYADH: A Saudi court hearing the Jamal Khashoggi case here on Monday awarded the death sentence to five accused for murdering the Washington Post journalist in Istanbul.

Three others involved in the murder had been sent to prison, says a Saudi public prosecution.

However, the prosecution said that all can file appeals against the verdict.

The court had acquitted former Saudi deputy intelligence chief Ahmed Al-Asiri over lack of evidence against him.

Earlier, the Saudi court had held nine hearings in the case. The court has given the decision in the 10th hearing here today.
