ISLAMABAD: Adviser to the Prime Minister on Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz on Monday said that Italy was a close friend and a leading trade and investment partner of Pakistan.
He acknowledged the excellent cooperation existing between the two countries at multilateral fora, particularly at the United Nations.
The Advisor expressed these views as he received Deputy Minister for Economic Development of Italy, Mr. Ivan Scalfarotto here at the Foreign Office, a press release issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said.
Mr. Scalfarotto is leading the Italian side to the second session of the Pakistan-Italy Joint Economic Commission being held in Islamabad on December 5-6, 2016. He was accompanied by a large delegation of leading Italian businessmen.
Both sides conveyed satisfaction over the positive trajectory of the Pakistan-Italy bilateral relations and underscored the importance of enhanced cooperation, especially in the areas of trade and investment.
They also expressed the hope that the visit would contribute in further strengthening of trade and economic relations between the two countries.
The Adviser also briefed the visiting dignitary on the Prime Minister’s initiatives for regional peace and stability, and strong commitment to maintaining cordial relations with all neighbouring countries.
The Italian Deputy Minister acknowledged the positive contribution being made by Pakistan for the regional peace and security and reaffirmed his country’s continued support in all areas of mutual interest.
