JOHANNESBURG: Pakistan skipper Sarfraz Ahmed set a new wicket-keeping record during the third day of the third and final Test against South Africa at the Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg on Sunday.

Sarfraz took 10 catches in the ongoing Test, going past Australia’s Adam Gilchrist and India’s MS Dhoni to become the wicket-keeper captain with the most number of catches in a match.

He also set a record for a Pakistan wicketkeeper by taking five catches in each innings. His total of ten dismissals in the match was one better than the record previously shared by Rashid Latif and Kamran Akmal.

Most number of catches by wicket-keeper captain:

10: Sarfraz Ahmed vs South Africa (Johannesburg, 2019)

8: Alec Stewart vs South Africa (Nottingham, 1998)

8: Adam Gilchrist vs Sri Lanka (Darwin, 2004)

8: MS Dhoni vs Australia (Melbourne, 2014)

Set to make a daunting 381 to win, Pakistan were 153 for three at the close on the third day, needing another 228 runs to avoid a clean sweep.
