BEIRUT: At least 12 children and three adults were killed following an air strike reportedly carried out by Russian fighter jets that targeted a school in Aleppo province of war-torn Syria, foreign media reported.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights told AFP that a teacher were also amongst the deceased while at least 20 others sustained serious wounds in the attack.

The monitor said heavy air strikes and clashes continued between the government and rebel forces since last Sunday in the northern province of Syria.

Photos distributed by media activists in Aleppo province showed a classroom full of rubble with the wooden tops of desks blown off their metal frames.

On the other hand, the Britain-based Observatory reported that three children were killed by rebel rocket fire on a government-held district in Aleppo city.

It should be mentioned that more than 260,000 people have been killed in Syria since the conflict began in March 2011 with anti-government protests.
