RAWALPINDI: Pakistan Army decided to launch a countrywide operation, ‘Radd-ul-Fasaad’, to completely eliminate terrorism, Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said on Wednesday.

The decision was made during a high-level meeting chaired by Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa, Director General Inter-Services Public Relations DG-ISPR Maj. Gen. Asif Ghafoor in his statement.

The new anti-terrorism operation will focus indiscriminate action against terrorists and miscreants in order to ensure border security besides stabilising of achievements gained in previous military operation Zarb-e-Azb.

Large scale operation commenced in Punjab province by Rangers to crush terrorism will also be part of the Radd-ul-Fasaad.

Moreover, the operation will be helpful to fully implement National Action Plan (NAP) across the country. Pakistan Army, Air Force, Navy and Civil Armed Forces will be part of the new operation.

Maj. Gen. Asif Ghafoor said in the latest statement that the operation aims at indiscriminately eliminating residual / latent threat of terrorism, consolidating gains of operations made thus far and further ensuring security of the borders.

Pakistan Air Force, Pakistan Navy, Civil Armed Forces (CAF) and other security and law enforcement agencies (LEAs) will continue to actively participate and intimately support the efforts to eliminate the menace of terrorism from the country, he detailed.

The effort entails conduct of Broad Spectrum Security and Counter-Terrorism (CT) operations by Rangers in Punjab, continuation of ongoing operations across the country and focus on more effective border security management. Country-wide de-weaponisation and explosive control are additional cardinals of the Radd-ul-Fasaad. Pursuance of National Action Plan will be the hallmark of the operation, he said.

It is noteworthy to mention here that the announcement of country-wide operation was made amid new wave of terrorist attacks which claimed lives of more than 100 lives while more than 150 were wounded. Moreover, the operation was announced after 1.5 years post conclusion of Operation Zarb-e-Azb in order to stabilise its achievement against terrorism in Pakistan.
